This draft European Standard was prepared by the Technical Committee CEN/TC 138 "Non-destructive testing" of which the secretariat is held by AFNOR.
This document is currently submitted to the formal vote.
This standard consists of the following parts:
In accordance with the CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations, the following countries are bound to implement this European Standard:
Part one of this standard gives methods and acceptance criteria for verifying the electronic performance of ultrasonic instruments, with A-scan displays, employed for manual ultrasonic non-destructive examination. A specific group of these methods and acceptance criteria shall be used at least once every twelve months to verify the fitness for purpose of an ultrasonic instrument during it's lifetime.
Part two of this standard gives methods and acceptance criteria, used by the manufacturer to verify the fitness for purpose of ultrasonic probes. There is no requirement for probes to be subject to periodic checking using these methods. Part 3 of this standard gives the methods and acceptance criteria that shall be used to verify the fitness for purpose of a probe during it's lifetime.
Part three of this standard gives methods and acceptance criteria for a complete system, with the probe, cable and ultrasonic instrument combined. Initially these shall be used to verify the compatibility of a probe, cable and ultrasonic instrument and to characterise the system's overall performance. On site these methods and acceptance criteria shall be used to routinely check the probe, cable and ultrasonic instrument during their lifetime.
