Ultrasonic inspection has gained an important role in industrial inspection. For production, as well as in-service-inspection, dedicated systems are provided to meet specific application and production requirements.

Many custom-made systems for on-line or off-line requirements used portable type instrumentation stacking as many as needed to meet the specific UT application.

NUKEM has designed a universal digital instrument the UTxx for all its UT-inspection systems. Two years ago, a paper was presented, discussing the technology of early waveform digitization. This technology digitizes the full RF-waveform and stores it into a large RAM and then derives all relevant data using a digital signal processor.
