Testing device for ultrasonic transducers

Abstract

The testing device is for monitoring changes in time in ultrasonic transducers used in nondestructive testing. These changes are identified by comparing at regular intervals charts of fields perpendicular to the radiation axis which are recorded automatically. Image definition is 256 points. This is currently done by a cumbersome and time consuming method using calibrated reflectors in an immersion tank. The advantage of the device is that sound intensity levels are recorded by a matrix of 256 piezoelectric elements enabling a visual display of the sound field to be obtained very quickly. The device is much more compact than conventional immersion apparatus and thus allows quick checks to be carried out on industrial sites by photographing the matrix of diodes on the front of the unit. For laboratory use it is equipped with standard connections for printing or display on computer peripherals. The device is applicable for all industries using ultrasonic nondestructive testing methods and confronted with the problem of periodic testing of a large number of sensors including the
