Abstract

More stringent requirements commit the suppliers of wrought products for aerospace components(e.g. turbine discs) to a comprehensive nondestructive test of their products before delivery.

Forged turbine discs are tested ultrasonically with a multi-axes scan system in immersion technique.

The lecture describes the practical realisation of such a test specification of an aero engine manufacturer in the forging plant.

The different aspects, like

• certification and approval of inspection personnel and test equipment
• generation of scan programs
• automatic test procedures, data acquisition and storage of raw data
• processing and filtering of data
• registration of results and documentation

are discussed in detail.

The lecture shows, how the actual specifications are met by a fully automatic new scanning system.
