Full-Text - AbstractAs we know, structures and different assemblies of aircraft are made from various materials such as, Aluminium alloy, Steel, Titanium and composite materials. Therefore, selection of NDT method and equipment depends upon the accessibility, materials property, coatings, cleanliness and finally the type of defect sought. In critical inspection, a defect indication developed by one method should be confirmed by some other NDT method.
Generally Visual/Optical, Liquid penetrant, Magnetic particle, Ultrasonic, Radiographic (X-Ray/Gamma Ray), Sonic/Resonance, and Infrared thermography NDT methods are used during inservice aircraft maintenance. With the development of sophisticated NDT equipments in the fast growing Nondestructive engineering technology, several new NDT techniques are developing and consequently those are being introduced for aircraft Nondestructive inspection.
This paper will present the different NDT methods and equipments used in different areas of aircraft structures, engine and other accessories installed in the aircraft. Use of latest NDT techniques will also be discussed.
