The present development with regard to qualification and certification of inspection personnel in the European aerospace industry is discussed:
How is inspection personnel trained and certified at present?
Which national and /or international standards are used at present or will be used in the future?
Which experience was gained with the standards used with regard to acceptance by foreign and in particular US auditors?.
As is known, the European aircraft industry has established a standard of its own (prEN4179)on this subject under the auspices of AECMA (published on green paper in January 1995).The most important contents and differences of pr EN 4179 to other standards(MIL STD 410 E and SNT TC 1A) common in the aircraft industry are outlined in the introduction. The current status of the final publication on white paper of prEN 4179 istexplained.Furthermore, the lecture reports on the implementation of the pr EN 4179 standard particularly in Germany and in other European countries and details the experience gainedwith regard to acceptance of the new standard by authorities and customers inside and outside Europe to the extent possible at the current stage.
