Abstract

In the last years the main efforts in improving eddy-current test equipments changed from signal generation and analysis to test documentation and to integration into automatic production processes. Computer technics got more and more important and with the available networking capabilities it is possible now to realize an eddy-current test equipment as a distributed application spread over a series of computers along the network (see figure 1).

A precondition is that the software of the testing instrument is built up from separate applications that communicate on open, network based standards like TCP/IP. All these applications can either run on a single computer, forming a compact instrument, or they can run on different computers located whereever the informations are generated or needed. Every function can even be controlled outside the plant using the global internet, for instance the instrument diagnosis can be done directly by the manufacturer of the eddy-current test equipment.
