The author show by examples from 4-years experience as accredited certification body that daily work experience in a shop and test pieces in an exam center can be so different, that special training for the exam is unavoidable. The other option is to keep everything very general and sell it to the public as "multisectoral certification". In this case, e.g. a multisectoral level 2 UT would adress five product sectors - which means that training of bearable duration cannot cover a lot of important details attributed to each of the product sectors.
As conclusion, the sectoral system of EN 473/IS0 9712 is not flexible enough to satisfy a number of industrial applications. Therefore, while leaving general exams as they are, it should be optional to take specific and practical parts within the employer based framework or in an external test center within an industry sector concept.
