Abstract

The qualification and certification of NDE personnel in the U. S. has traditionally been accomplished through the employer based recommended guidelines of SNT-TC-1A. However, where safety and reliability are paramount, certain U.S. industries have indicated the need for a standard and more rigorous qualification process that will deliver a consistent and reliable level of NDE personnel performance.

This paper will present the evolution of NDT personnel qualification and the events that lead to the introduction of ASNT's New Central Certification Program (ACCP). The features of the ACCP including the industry Sector option will be described in detail. As an American Industry Best Practice. the ACCP will also be compared to the International Standard ISO 9712.
