It is therefore very important to know the state of pipelines and vessels of plants, in order to forecast their residual life; knowing the residual thickness of manufactures means to be able to substitute them before they crash, avoid loss of products and dangerous substances, avoid undesired and unexpected shoot down of plants.
It becomes fundamental for the ultrasonic inspections to be programmed and performed following these three basic principles:
| 1. Choice Criteria: | based on the real criticity of each pipeline or device; |
| 2. Survey's Precision: | it must be ensured that through years thickness surveys are madeat the same places; this is made possible by a strict application ofcodes and procedures; |
| 3. Data Analysis: | the Life_Extension Software takes care of this last point, allowinga real management of the thousands of surveys stored during theyears, making data always available, obtaining as much information as possible, and capitalising all the hystorical data, that canbe compared through the years. |
Our experience, confirmed by nearly a million of thickness surveys in more than forty circuits managed by the Life_Extension Software in different plants in Europe, has demonstrated that it is possible to perform a better management of plants, reducing costs and at the same time widening the range of controls that can be performed.
We think that this software can help to reach the idea of global quality that should drive all NDT activities.
