Abstract
Saudi ARAMCO is the worlds largest integrated oil company and has introduced a wide range of advanced NDT Technology to its operations. New NDT technologies are sought out and evaluated on a basis which justifies economic return by using these technologies to extend plant cycles, reduce downtime and minimize replacement costs. The program has involved the development of leading edge field operable inspection techniques for piping, pressure vessels, and storage tanks. Techniques developed encompass novel applications in the fields of Acoustic Emission, High Energy Radiography utilizing a Portable 6 MeV Linear Accelerator, Digital Radiography and High Speed Ultrasonics. These techniques have been widely implemented in a range of in-plant online situations encompassing: AE valve leak detection and quantification, AE tank floor monitoring for condition assessment, and High Energy Radiation of Process Plant and Concrete Structures. A wide range of ultrasonic inspection techniques have been investigated including High Speed Corrosion Mapping with Flexible Ultrasonic Arrays, Enhanced inspection of Hydrogen Induced Cracking Defects, Guided Wave Global Screening of Pipework and High Speed Weld Inspection for Cross Country Pipelines.
