Introduction
The piping installation on the two desulphurization systems in the power plants MIBRAG Mumsdorf and MIBRAG Deuben in Germany, have been constructed entirely in GFRPmaterials, with adhesively and laminated bonded joints. The main pipes had diameters from 500 mm to 800 mm and a working pressure at 7 bar, which made the adhesively bonded area between the flange sockets and the pipes, the most critical joints in the installation. Due to high attenuation in the flange sockets, it was decided to make the inspection from the inside of the pipes. By comparing the signals from the adhesively bonded area with the pipe backwall echoes, it was possible to determine the size of the areas with lack of adhesive. The acceptance criteria was determined in co-operation with the manufacturer, contractor and the client
