Abstract

Testing for leaks is necessary for thousands of technological products and in wide variety of projects in scientific research. The new detector developed by authors is based on cataromdric method of non-destructive testing. It has distinguished itself in applications that include pressure vessel construction, devices, automatic parts and special systems. This detector is the result of experience in leak detection and it is one of the most versatile of leak detectors because it can accomodate application specifying a variety of sizers shapes, volumes and leak requirement.

Gas (for example, helium) has the ability to pass through the smallest leaks arid can be detected immediately by a instrument's solid state element. In detector field transistors were used as sensitive elements. The device is capable of detecting and locating the helium equivalent of air leakage as small as 8.4 10^-7 Pa m³/sek frompressurized parts and systems.

Special version of leak detector is available for use with argon and hydrogen as well as helium as the tracer gas. The detector provides sensitivity that exceeds nearly all current requirements.

The sensitive element in the detector responds rapidly (0.5 seconds or less) to changes in led rate. Other characteristics of device also was described in this report.
Detector can be incorporated as a stationary unit in production line testingor as a portable leak detector for general use. Components of him are to withstand environmental contamination, the jars of portable use, and useby operators with minimal training.
