Abstract

BETA 1 is a robot qualified in accordance with EDF specifications (towards a Performance Demonstration of Inspection). It has been developed in cooperation with EDF, ABB Barras and LOGITEST. BETA 1 is dedicated to the in-service inspection (ISI) of steam generator (SG) tubes, on PWR nuclear power plants.

BETA 1 is a 2 axes robot with the main following characteristics:

• adapted to all kinds of SG, 900 MW (7/8"), 1300 (3/4") and 1400 MW (3/4"),
  
• adapted to all NDT methods (Eddy currents, ultrasonic testing, video inspections),
  
• designed to reduce the exposure time in hostile environment (ALARA),
  
• designed to perform light maintenance (plugging, plug removal).
