Abstract
In 1996 ABB TRC developed and manufactured a new manipulator for inspection of core shrouds in BOOR. The manipulator can be equipped with different NDT techniques as ultrasonic, eddy-current and visual techniques. For not interrupting or disturbing other activities, as for example fuel changing, in the reactor vessel the manipulator occupy only a very small area of the core region. It can operate at one third of the core shroud without lifting to new position. The manipulator has verification blocks placed at a special "garage place" for the transducers. This means that the transducers can be verified automatically down in the vessel without crane support for lifting up for manual verification. The manipulator has also been qualified in accordance with the new regulations in Sweden (SKIES).The manipulator is developed in a modular system which also gives the possibility to use it for inspection of other objects in the vessel. For example the vessel inner surface in the core region or modify the vertical mast to perform inspection of inner surface or other objects in the upper part of the vessel.
The manipulator has been in operation during the outage 1997 in Ringhals 1, Sweden.
