The tests have been carried out on a mock-up representative of P.W.R's Reactor Pressure Vessel. The ferritic weld considered is 220 mm thick and coated by a 8mm stainless steel cladding. Several type of planar defects, orientated perpendicularly to the surface are implanted at different depths.
The results acquired permit:
to compare the performance of the different techniques available, namely between radiographic examination and UT tandem examination.
to establish a comparison between the RCC-M (RT + conventional manual UT) and KTA (UT tandem technique + conventional manual UT) approaches,
to juge the feasability and evaluate the problems induced by a UT manual examination through a stainless steel cladding.
