The Performance Demonstration of Inspection (PDI) in accordance with EDF specifications was successful in 1995. The capability of the inspection device to detect, locate and size circumferential defects (ID and OD) has been established through two different sets of mockups, one with electroeched notches and the other, with intergranular attack (IGA) and intergranular stress corrosion cracking (IGSCC).
Destructive examinations of mock-up containing IGA and IGSCC show that the UT measurements (depth, extension angle and profile) have a good correlation with the real dimensions of the cracks. The first in-service inspection, on a 900 MW PWR SG, has been performed in 1996.
