Abstract
A pilot study is currently being carried out by ENIQ in order to explore the issues involved in inspection qualification applied along the general principles of the European methodology. The components selected for the pilot study are austenitic wrought pipe to pipe and pipe to elbows. The procedure/equipment were qualified through open trials and technical justification. The personnel qualification was done in a blind way. Once all features of the inspection system were qualified an inservice inspection was simulated in order to test the feasibility of the qualification approach followed. In this paper the approach followed will be discussed in detail The following issues will be discussed more specifically: choice of ISI objectives, choice of number of test pieces for the open and blind trials, choice of type of defects, how to conduct open trials, comparison between open and blind trials results and comparison between qualification and in-service inspection simulation results. Furthermore the main lessons learned form this ENIQ pilot study will be given.
