A general description of Odense Steel Shipyard and its range of products is given. The Quality Assurance System used by the Yard is described in detail with focus on development into a Total Quality Management System (TQM) through the Stumbling Stone Method.
Within the operational part of the Quality Assurance System non destructive testing of materials and welds plays an important role in controlling critical areas in materials, weld processes and workmanship. Thereby essential elements of overall product quality are ensured.
Procedures used at Odense-Lindo for non destructive testing reflect the requirements of the Classification Societies, the owners and those of the Yard. Examples of this are given. It is further detailed how the Yard control the whole process of non destructive testing.
Finally, the possibilities and wishes for the future development of non destructive testing is discussed.
