The demands for NDT-inspection varies depending on the security demands made for the type of vessel in question.
As far as Danyard is concerned, this has meant an increase of NDT-inspection from approx. 50 film per newbuilding (reefers, bulk carriers and container vessels) to 5,000 film per newbuilding for the present production of chemical tankers. This multiplication of NDT-inspections has meant that they have become an integrated part of the production process and are carried out on a continuous basis in stead of being a final inspection of the completed vessel.
All 42 integrated cargo tanks have been made from Duplex steel in thicknesses ranging from 10-28 mm, and the pipe system in connection with the tanks (approx. 25 km in all) is made of Duplex and the 316LN quality in thicknesses ranging from 1,5 to 5 min. The NDT-inspections are made solely with radiography, and for the first time in Denmark Se 75 isotopes for X-ray inspection of pipes are used.
