The research work presented in this paper focuses on the assessment of matrix cracks and delamination with the acoustic emission technique. The cumulative AE counts of the AE signals have been used and, after appropriate filtering, gave a direct correlation with the real fatigue damage. The AE information was therefore used to quantify the amount of damage and to correlate it with the stiffness reduction of the laminates. Finally an experimentalnumerical model for the tension-tension fatigue behaviour of quasi-isotropic C-epoxy laminates is presented as well as a scheme to predict the critical fatigue state.
