Radiographic examination of the drilled components is part of the inspection procedure. Traditional X-Ray film technique has been used.
In 1994 a Real Time X-Ray system was introduced. The main reason for replacement of X-ray film equipment was the cost of film and space needed to store film for quality evaluation afterwards. Data has to be archived during 10 to 20 years.
Based on tests performed by potential suppliers, a system was defined which should meet the resolution criteria and is easy to use in the production environment.
The system consists of:
After installation of the Real Time X-Ray system, it turned out that X-Ray inspection is also frequently used to solve quality problems during production process development. Since the inspection of standard production is computer controlled the quality assurance is improved.
