Abstract
A new NDT-Center in Germany is growing up. The main user of this center is equipped with one of the largest systems for X-ray ComputedTomography (CT) in Europe. The CT-system is designed as a combined device for Fan Beam Tomography (2D-CT) plus Cone Beam Tomography (3D-CT), as well as Digital Radiography.
The size of the objects which can be inspected is up to 4 meters in height, 1.5 meters diameter and a weight of 15 tons. As radiation source a LINAC is used, with primary energy ranges of 6, 9 and 11 MeV.The detector system has been especially optimized for this source of radiation.
In the case of 2D-CT it consists of a linear array of 128 individual scintillators. By means of an unique multilayer tungsten collimator package different effective detector sizes from 0,3 mm x 0,3 mm to 3,0 mm x 3,0 mm are selectable. The electronics have been optimized with respect of dynamics.
A second two dimensional detector allows the direct data acquisition in cone beam techniques (3D-CT). In addition special attention has been paid to the mechanical accuracy, the high sophisticated control system and the computer Hard- and Software.
The results of these development efforts, which lead to one of the most powerful and versatile CT-Scanners, are presented in the paper.
