
Accordingly, in the backdrop of agrarian poverty ridden economy, the potentiality of NDT technology in the fields of Research & development, Service & Training is great in Bangladesh and its requirement is increasing with industrial growth. The industrial organisations in public & private sectors are now increasingly utilizing different NDT techniques for inspection, testing, quality control and quality assurances and working with right earnest to develop NDT methods to such an extent and standard that the country is attaining self reliance. As a result, the local industries are getting NDT services from different local NDT organisations on all or any of the 5 popular methods which are more economic and readily available.
In order to build up a strong and effective infrastructure of local NDT practitioners at international standards, it may be noted with appreciation that with the support and patronisation received from different quarters both national viz. Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission and international viz. UEA, Bangladesh Society for Nondestructive Testing (BSNDT) created in 1990 is active in generating the urge and implementing its objectives through organising Training, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences including announcing awards for outstanding performance & contribution in the field of NDT. But, this is not enough.
In the foregoing context it is intended to cover further details in respect of prospect and facilities of development and application of NDT in Bangladesh including methods of prominance in use and salient features of such application. The paper will also highlight the institutional framework and infrastructural needs and priorities to determine the ways and means for achieving the targets with further participation and co-operation from internationalforums. The text of the paper shall be enriched with statisfical data as well to signifyachievements made so far.
