The Ukrainian Society for Non-Destructive Testing and Technical Diagnostics (US NDT&TD) was established in 1990. The aim of the Society's activity is consolidation of the efforts of scientists and engineers for development of their creative and business activity, information exchange, satisfying the professional interests, development of international contacts on NDT&TD.
US NDT&TD gives a lot of attention to contacts and co-operation with similar foreign societies. In 1995, US NDT&TD was accepted into the European Committee on NDT (EC NDT), a number of agreements were signed and negotiations were held on cooperation with the societies of Russia, Belarus, Poland, Czech, Croatia, Germany, Great Britain, Denmark, Italy, and others.
US NDT&TD set up the National Certification Committee of Ukraine on NDT, which had the aim of organizing the personnel certification in keeping with EN 473. Six certification centres are functioning in Ukraine at present.
In 1989, the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine started publishing the "Technical Diagnostics and Non-Destructive Testing" journal. This journal is now issued 4 times a year and re-edited in Great Britain.
The work on standardization in the field of NDT&TD is led by the Technical Committee on Standardization "Technical Diagnostics and Non-Destructive TestinJ (TC-78). This is a social organization which unites the leading experts on' TD&NDT. Its main aim is unification of the standards of Ukraine with the European norms.
The leading NDT organization are: E.O.Paton Electric Welding Institute, G.V.Karpenko Physico-Mechanical Institute, National Technical University "Kiev Polytechnical Institute", Ukrainian Research Institute of Manufacturing Engineering, "AntonoV' Aircraft Scientific-Engineering Complex, "Pivdenny" Aerospace Complex, "Zond" Research- Production Company, etc.
In conclusion it should be noted that Ukraine has considerable scientific and engineering potential for further development of the NDT&TD methods, their more extensive introduction into production.
