PDI Approach to Dissimilar Metal Weld Qualification

ABSTRACT
This presentation describes the on going efforts of PDI and EPRI to develop a dissimilar metal weld qualification program to meet the new requirements of the recently issued rule mandating Appendix VIII of ASME Section XI. The ultrasonic examination of dissimilar metal welds is one of the most challenging examinations to perform. The numerous configurations present in nuclear power plants in the US makes the design of a qualification program a very difficult and costly task. ERPI personnel have been challenged to develop a program that is technically sound and economical feasible to meet the new requirements. This presentation details the present approach.
