There is approximately ten cubic meters of base metal material at PNNL. The material is from the Pressure Vessel Research User Facility (PVRUF) vessel, the Shoreham nuclear power station vessel, the River Bend Unit 2 and Hope Creek Unit 2 vessels. Reference reflectors were machined into several Shoreham blocks and examined to establish the sensitivity of the ultrasonic inspection. The process of preparing and inspecting the remaining base metal material is in place and running. Results of the reference reflector study and initial base metal inspections are discussed.
