Problems arising at NPP in Ukraine under operation of steam generators (SG) of VVER-1000 reactor facilities caused necessity to upgrade the methods and systems to control heat-exchanging tubes. Regular approach to control of leaks and identify the tubes subject of plugging was based upon pneumo-aquarium method. However, to develop the criterion for rejection of SG heat-exchanging tubes the experimental or calculating identification of tubes condition is necessary under which plugging should be performed well in advance, before through destruction appearing. Strengthening of the regulatory authority in Ukraine requirements to SG heat-exchanging tubes control is based upon international experience (IAEA Project RER/4/20) and objective possibilities of NPP in Ukraine during implementation of eddy-current control (ECC) systems developed by Siemens and Intercontrol. This presentation shows approach used at South Ukraine NPP to implement approach on improvement of ECC to control SG tubes based upon as follows:
- analysis of tubes wearing rate;
- location of indications along length;
- repeatability of the control results;
- dynamics of defects growing depending upon time and operational conditions.
The approaches are presented to develop the recommendations on regulation of safe operation of SG tubes at NPP with VVER in Ukraine taking into account the current condition of control.
