In 1994 the PDI Programme moved into the operational phase, providing Utilities and other organizations the opportunity to complete the practical demonstration requirements of the PDI's implementation of Appendix VIII. Since then dozens of NDE procedures and many hundreds of personnel have participated in the PDI program. The PDI's administration of these demonstrations has been assigned to the EPRI NDE Center and requires that accurate records from all the qualifications are kept.

This information is assembled in databases and analysis of the data illustrates the challenging reliability requirements of the PDI program along with answering many of the questions raised by others at the start of the PDI program. An overview of the experience and the demonstrations results obtained during the qualification of automated ISI procedures for RPV shell welds will therefore be presented along with discussion on the use of this data in Technical Justifications for future qualifications.
