ABSTRACT
In ultrasonic testing, artificial defects made by electrical discharge machining (EDM) are often used as the reference defects. It is very important to confirm the difference of echo heights for fatigue crack and EDM notch. So, an experimental confirmation of the echo height differences has been carried out for the same size of the fatigue cracks and the EDM notches. The results showed that the acoustic echo heights for the EDM notches were 10 to 12dB higher than those for the fatigue cracks and so on.
