The new system is able to apply, from bottom of vessel, different techniques as Ultrasounds, Eddy Current, Penetrant Liquid and Visual examination with the same scanner and only two different probe heads.
The object of this paper is to describe the system that has been used to perform more than four hundred ICMH examinations without any significant problem, in very sort time, with very low dose impact and with high performances as sensitivity, accuracy and several evaluation tools.
The head design used for ultrasonic and eddy current examinations follows the previous experiences of these companies that, jointly or separately, have performed a lot of inspections of PWR and BWR vessel penetrations. To make UT and ET examination, several transducers have been used in local immersion.
Using other different head, the same scanner is able to make automatic and remote PT examination with a TV camera also used for visual examination. The system includes the liquids control unit, to apply the penetrant and to wash it, and a dual system to record the images in videotape and, in digital way, in PC.
The record of images includes the position of scanner during examination and assures the repeatability of examination. Also some tools for digital images treatment supports a very friendly data evaluation and presentation.
In summary, this paper presents a good example of use of several NDE techniques integrated in only one system and describes the advantages obtained.
