ABSTRACT
A unit 2 Balakovo NPP was shut down because steam generator (SG) tubes had failed with outer diameter stress corrosion cracking (ODSCC). Novel, single-pass eddy current transmit-receive probes, were successful in detecting all significant cracks so that the cracked tubes could be plugged and the unit restarted. Results from metallurgical examinations were used to obtain probability-of detection and sizing accuracy plots to quantify the performance of this new inspection technique. Reviews of accumulate experience of using Eddy Current equipment and communicating probe. The Typical defects meet when checking. Validity of revealing the defects, strategy of evaluation of validity at the decryption of results of checking. The Condition Development to safe usage of tube, having defects. Information on damaging the tube on the unit 2 Balakovo NPP, Areas of location of defects, nature of defects, metallurgical examinations of samples of tubes are presented.
