A New Approach to cost-effective Inspection Qualification - Strategy
P. Roscoe, AEA Technology, Warrington, U.K.
ABSTRACT
The use of an appropriate mix of technical justification and practical demonstration to qualify an inspection as fit for its intended purpose, the approach embodied in the European Methodology Document developed by ENIQ, is now becoming widely known. This paper describes how, within a major ISI project, a strategy was developed which takes this approach a step further by using technical justification to minimise the number of qualifications required whilst maintaining a high level of technical rigour. This strategy is expected to realise significant cost savings compared to more traditional inspection qualification approaches.
