ABSTRACT
The primary circuit side of the VVER type reactors has been originally furnished only with one mechanized/automated inspection device (USK) serving for the in-service inspection of the Reactor Pressure Vessels. During the last 10 years Paks NPP as well as other VVER operators undertook big efforts for increasing the degree of automatization of the in-service inspection of primary loop components and also for improving the effectiveness of non-destructive examinations. This process is still going on in the frame of different projects (IAEA, PHARE, TACIS) as well as on the basis of bilateral commercial contracts. As a result of these improvements for instance, the Phased Array technique has been introduced first at Paks NPP in 1995 for the Steam Generator Primary Collector examinations, and two years later also for the RPV inspections. At present time this technique is available in other VVER plants as well. The aim of this paper is to present the progress which has been made in the field of ISI of VVER reactor components at Paks NPP.
