ABSTRACT . A model for the calculation of wear under unlubricated friction is developed. As a wear criterion the exceeding of the theoretical strength in micro areas of the solid is used, while the necessary work for separation of the lattice bonds is transformed into surface energy of the new generated solid surfaces. The verification of the model happen by wear measurements by means of pin on disk and two disk test machine.
