Service Durability of TIG Dressed and Ground Weld Seams Subjected to Proportional Loading Spectra

ABSTRACT This paper discusses the design check of cyclically loaded weld seams with improved fatigue performance due to post weld treatment operations such as TIG dressing and grinding. The algorithm is mainly based on the local strain approach to design against fatigue. It accounts for the fundamentally different damage process and conceptual consequences of weld seams with post weld treatment compared to the usual approach based on nominal, structural or notch stresses.
