ABSTRACT The stress-strain behaviour of hot-peened one-leaf parabolic springs made of 50CrV4-Nb for light trucks has been determined by measurements under service conditions. The results obtained on the test rig for payload and quasi-static driving situations were in good agreement with the corresponding ones measured during driving the prototype vehicle on the test track. To investigate the failure behaviour of the springs on the test rig, standardized load spectra in accordance with Grubisic and Fischer's [1],[2] procedure were taken as a basis. All specimens provided failure at the rear side of the spring arm. In the theoretical damage analysis, systematic variation of the input data within allowable limit values yields wide deviations in the calculated fatigue life values and failure-critical locations. Hence, the accurate determination of the input data by means of fatigue tests is an indispensable task that needs to be done.
