Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) is supposed to distinguish between intact and damaged areas of a component.
Zerstörungsfreie Prüfung mit neuen Interferometrie-Verfahren - Prinzip und Anwendungen
Henry Gerhard und Gerd Busse
ABSTRACT Areas of damage are e.g. cracks or holes that might be hidden underneath the surface. They result in a reduction of strength which is correlated with a locally modified strain under thermal or me-chanical load. The sensitivity of interferometric methods in revealing defects from such strain fields can be enhanced if one uses the advantages of measure-ment techniques that are known from other NDE-methods. Our contribution pre-sents principle and applications of both ultrasonic and phase sensitive optical in-terferometry (e.g. "Lockin-ESPI"). The features are defect-selective imaging and improvement of signal to noise ratio, thus making quality surveillance more reliable by these methods.
