Mechanical Properties of Deposits on Nickel Base Alloys - Fabrication by ion assisted EB PVD

ABSTRACT The growth of homogeneous and ductile layers is promoted by ion assisted deposition. Ions were accelerated to different velocities to help control the PVD coating process on metal. The coatings deposited on Ni-based alloys were optically (light microscopy, SEM) assessed also with regard to their mechanical and technological properties out of hardness, scratch test and friction test. Measurements show higher values of hardness for Cr-layers on the Ni-alloys, if they are obtained with ion assisted deposition, compared to Cr layers deposited without accelerated ions.
