Application of fracture mechanics to railway components
Uwe Zerbst, Geesthacht und K. Mädler, Kirchmöser
ABSTRACT The paper gives an overview on the most relevant fracture mechanics issues for railway components with the main focus on highly safety relevant structures such as axles, wheels and rails. Several patterns of damage observed in practical application are briefly addressed with respect to their potential integration in fracture mechanics based design and maintenance concepts.
