ABSTRACT
Phased Array UT technique has a various kinds of advantage as follows ; By precisely controlling the delays between the probe elements, beams of various angle, focal distance, and spot size can be materialised. Multiple angle inspection and high-speed scan could be performed with single, electronically controlled and multi-element array probe by multiplexing technique. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) has worked on the described Phased Array UT technique for the purpose of applying it to the actual field inspection. Up to this point, MHI has studied and developed what is the essential point to carry out UT for various kinds of inspection portion such as nozzle welds, socket welds of stainless and casting materials which are hard to be inspected by conventional UT. Also MHI has several experiences of applying Phased Array UT technique for the actual field inspection. This paper introduces several kinds of the effective application examples with respect to Phased Array UT techniques as well as our actual field experiences.
