Inspection Qualification is now being widely used to demonstrate the performance of the inspection of safety critical components. Various methods of qualifying inspection have been around for some time and there is now experience of their application that can be fed back to improve how we can qualify inspections in the future. This paper describes experience of using the ENIQ and IAEA Methodology for inspection qualification and describes some of the lessons learned and makes recommendations on how the inspection process can be improved in future. The following areas will be covered:
Flexible arrangements for Qualification to maximise the available technical expertise
Dealing with Essential Parameters
Technical Justification - what should be included?
Practical Trials - How to test the important aspects of the inspection
Suggested changes to the ENIQ Recommended Practices
