Abstract:
Although x-ray image intensifiers are a rapid, economical means to obtain 2-D projections, they have not been widely used for high-resolution CT because they typically do not deliver enough contrast sensitivity ton reap the benefits of a high-intensity, microfocus x-ray source. We have overcome this problem by expanded grey-scale subranging and artifact removal methods, which in turn allowed us to further enhance spatial resolution using a rotate-translate algorithm. We applied this technique to studies of the mechanics of microstructure evolution in a system of consolidated, soda-lime-silicate spheres.
