Abstract:
Acousto-elastic analysis of ceramic powder compacts provides useful information on the relationships between macroscopic mechanical behavior, variations in particle-packing structures, and the micro-mechanics of particle-particle interfaces. Belyaeva's model for the structure-induced nonlinearilty of elastic wave propagation in porous media was applied to various packings of monosized, spherical particles. We will critically evaluate the response of this model to such variables as the particle size, the packing density, variations in packing structure, and the mechanical properties of effective interparticle contacts.
