Abstract:
Hard materials with known mechanical properties were probed with spherical and Berkovich indenters using a Nanoindenter (TM). A simple analysis of the loading portion of the indentation experiment was found to give reasonable estimates of the elastic modulus for a variety o brittle materials.
Research sponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Office of Transportation Technologies, as part of the High Temperature Materials Laboratory User Program, under contract DE-AC05-840R21400 with Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corp.
