Role of NDE in Residual Life Assessment of Power Plant Components

FULL-TEXT - ABSTRACT This paper deals with the significant role NDT plays in assessing the remnant life of various pressure retaining parts of thermal powerplants which are operating at high temperatures and high pressures.Various failure modes are analyzed and the mechanisms of these failures are discussed. The role of NDT in the detection of the failures /failure mechanisms at an early stage is highlighted. Special NDE techniques as applied to RLA of power plants are discussed. The cost saving as well as life-saving aspects due to such studies are enumerated.
