Database search results and introduction
We show results of searches , and give a brief introduction about the capabilities of some Databases. We selected those we found useful for ultrasonic testing subjects. In our "Archives of the Virtual Library" section you can also find some details about Databases, e.g., FIZ Karlsruhe, WELDASEARCH, INSPEC. We found INSPEC very impressive, with good Internet support. They have established a very useful Inspec Home Page [1], and you can find excellent support for online training there.
There is also a Database from FIZ Technik available with additional access through the German T-Online Network. FIZ Technik has many databases available; the Database THEMA Database is of greater interest to UT. It contains a review of publications, and is mostly done by experts from the BAM, unfortunately the reviews are in German only. That's one reason why we didn't use it.
We emphasize that these resources are only the beginning; we will continue to search the growing number of databases worldwide, and keep you informed.
We will also visit the Exhibition INFOBASE in Frankfurt that will take place March 21-23 1996.
For our access samples we used the Telnet connection to ESAIRIS and ECHO host.
The CORDIS database is placed on the ECHO host, and produced by the European Community for Research and Development Information Service. It is smaller, and no competition for the others, but it has its own focus and is free of charge.
The results:
INSPEC RESULT. Here we display the search, and the 10 results for Ultrasonic and Automotive. We also present some dialog from the Online sessions, and with the Database Host ESAIRIS we also show you the connection charge (1 AU = 1.2 US$ approx.).
CORDIS RESULT. For automotive we just found 1 result, and we decided to show another search with the 8 results for Ultrasonic andTesting and Energy. We display also some dialog of the Online sessions and with the Database Host Echo.

Both give you more background information of CORDIS, we downloaded the database content for Ultrasonics and made a breakdown by classification and by market.
