The mathematical modelling is a extremely powerful tool. By means of the computer it is namely possible to simulate also situations that can hardly be performed by the practical laboratory experiment. The second important information when using mathematical modelling is in the fact that it is possible to say what cannot be detected. This information is extremely useful for the user of the NDT device. The commercial advertisements normally do not tell much about their limitations.
In the remote field eddy current technique (RFEC) a computer program was developed to demonstrate the possibility of performing the practical experiment.
It will be shown what can be expected when using the RFEC technique and a suitable personal computer. It seems that a new age has come in the research work in the field of NDT using the new consept of mathematical modelling.
