Abstract
Renewal & development of a companies internal business infrastructure, systems & processes is a continuous challenge facing every company today. It is a particularly severe challenge for those companies who wish to move out of a period of enforced recession arising from a combination of economic & political factors. Failure to revitalise means sooner or later almost certain economic extinction.. However business sucesses through significant improvement in operating efficiency & productivity can be achieved within the resources & capability of most companies without the need for major capital investment
Experience shows that initial development efforts should focus first on basically better quality management coupled with improvement of the key business processess. This is not capital intensive & through such a carefully tuned strategic development programme significant cost reduction coupled with improved quality can be realised quite rapidly. This can provide the necessary impetus for growth & for attracting the needed inflow of technology & investment( eg in finding suitable Joint Venture partners.)
The paper provides a insight into the closely related areas of Business Process & Quality Systems Development & relates some of the experience of the author obtained while working as consultant on the establishment of ABBs Joint Ventures in Central & Eastern Europe.
