Abstract

Many constructional materials operate at the limit of their capability, and further developments of the advanced technology will depend on the availability of ceramic composite materials.

The purpose of the paper is:

i)to highlight the importance of continuous fiber reinforced ceramic matrixcomposites for industrial innovations,

ii)to pinpoint the needs for research development and technology to achieve anindustrial breakthrough

iii)to indicate the current trends in the development of continuous fibres reinforcedceramic matrix composites,

iv)to forecast the potentials and to indicate the barriers of CFCC's in industry, inEurope.

The paper is focussed on CFCC's for industrial application outside the space - and military industries. The emphasis will be based on cost effectiveness and long term reliability in industrially operating environments i.e. power industry.
